Or so you think!
Most of the time, we find students and fresh grads actually have plenty of great experience – they just don’t know if it counts.
Generally, ‘experience’ refers to any jobs you might have done in the past.
But for student and fresh graduates, experience is not just limited to job. Here are some of the important activities that can, and should, be included in your experience section:
- University classes/courses relevant to the job you’re applying for
- Long-term course projects
- Volunteering experience (especially if you took on a leadership role)
- Participation in leadership opportunities (e.g. President of Finance Club, Events Chair of Dance Club etc.)
- Internships done in the past
- Passion projects (special projects or hobbies you have done in or outside of school)
- Work Experience Weeks
- Certifications, trainings, or courses relevant to the role you’re applying for
Adding these details has a two-fold effect on your profile. 1) it shows the employer your skills and talent and 2) it shows the employer your motivation, effort, and drive to achieve.
